Many times in D&D, I have tried (or read an adventure that tried) to create a scenario with the dungeoneers trapped in some sort of maze which they must find their way out of. Time and again, however, the adventure idea has dungeon tile setups; you name it. This D&D adventure for characters of levels 1–3 was previously produced as a D&D Encounters season adventure. Halfway through Thunderspire Labyrinth, I think the shine of 4E wore off and the “flatness” of H2 was shown. The climate and terrain data was pulled from previous editions of D&D (3rd edition and even older), and I used my best judgment for this information whenever a monster was truly new to 4E (i.e. It can be played as a standalone adventure or as the second part of a three-part series.
