Being not much of a reader,this book was such an entertaining and informative read, that I couldn't let this book go. We had been big fans of artbooks for a long time, and especially the ones from Design Studio Press (scott roberston) like the Skillful Huntsman or Alien Race, books about concept and creative process only. Doing silhouettes is kinda of a new thing for me and i think i have been doing it slightly wrong i going to go read over The skillful huntsman and see if i can get anything out of it! "the skillful huntsman" is a great book that cover the making of this concept art style. I'm guessing this was first painted as a black silhouette first and by alternating between 100% hard brush and eraser to carve out the shapes.
